Mission Reports: XJ and Tacoma
Couple of recoveries to post from over the weekend!
First one is a Tacoma that slid off Geneva Creek Road in the snow. A pendulum style recovery to get it back on the road. Once recovered the team worked on getting everyone off the trail and back on pavement since there was snow on the ground. Often times egressing is harder than the recovery as trails tend to ice up and be very slick.
Second one is a XJ that slid off a very soft shoulder on Bard Creek. The team utilized two redirected winch lines to pull the jeep back onto the road bed. Given the lack of recovery points on the front and rear of the vehicle, chains and cluster hooks were used to get into the frame on the front, and wrap around the tow hitch in the back.
Both operations had teams on site for 3-4 hours each, if you find yourself sliding off the side of the road and don’t have effective means to self recover, STOP! Get 3rd party help! Attempting to drive out can effectively slide you further down the mountain, pin your vehicle against a tree, or even worse risk a rollover. Get help as fast as possible to minimize your risk of vehicle damage, bodily injury, and trail damage that might pull another passerby off next time.
