Snow Recovery Weekend!
Over the last few days Colorado 4×4 Rescue and Recovery has received numerous calls for vehicles stuck in the snow! From solo wheelers to groups of five, not all ended up needing our assistance and were able to self recover, but a couple did.
First up is a Tacoma Saturday the 22nd that slid off a narrow trail in the vicinity of Peewink Mountain. The team rigged up a pendulum style recovery and was able to pull the truck back on to the trail with relative ease. From the arrival on scene, assessment, rigging, and recovery, it took two hours to get the vehicle pulled back onto the trail and everything packed back up to egress out.
Second operation occurred Sunday the 23rd outside of Leadville. An Audi Q7 went off a the hard packed snow and needed to be pulled back on to drive out under its own power. A tow company attempted to reach this vehicle as well, but sank into the deep snow long before they could reach the vehicle. We even had one rig slid off and frame out while on the recovery.
This is the season where conditions can change extremely rapidly in the high country, travel prepared, have extra food, water, clothing, etc. to sustain yourself for an extended time. And it’s highly encouraged to not off-road alone as your chances of self recovery go up dramatically with other vehicles present
