Mission Reports: Triple Header!

Multiple recovery operations took place on Saturday the 20th!

1st call: A JK was recovered from the side of the road on Hefferman Gulch. The vehicle had slid off and was unable to pull itself unaided back onto the road. The team made quick work of this and was diverted to another call nearby.

2nd call: The team from the 1st operation diverted to a pair of vehicles stuck along Spring Gulch Road. After fighting their way through some deep snow drifts making little progress, an alternate route to the stuck parties was found. Both the Jeep and Truck were recovered successfully.

3rd call: 911 relay from Gilpin County Sheriff’s Department. A Jeep Liberty had slid off the road in the vicinity of Yankee Hill. A quick winch back onto the road had everyone on their way.

Last responding team member in the field return home around just after midnight this morning.

Remember to always have an emergency kit in your vehicle with extra food, water, clothing for the season, and always let someone know where you’re going and when you’ll be back.

Traction aids like you see in the photos (action trax, max tracks, etc) or tire chains can usually get you moving again if you find yourself stuck, especially if your vehicle doesn’t have the ability to mount a winch on it. Another tip that may help is to drop your tire pressures and get a bit more contact with the ground. Usually 25%-50% drop is enough to make a difference.

Of course don’t forget to air back up at the nearest gas station!! HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH LOW TIRES ARE DANGEROUS!
